On December 2, Joan Anderson, senior coordinator, Peace and Global Issues of the SGI (Soka Gakkai International), spoke at a two-day hybrid 2022 Earth Charter Conference, held at the Earth Charter Center for Education for Sustainable Development at the University of Peace (UPEACE) in Costa Rica. The conference was titled “Putting Planetary Well-Being at the Core: A Call to Turn our Conscience into Action.” Referencing President Daisaku Ikeda’s 2002 environment proposal “The Challenge of Global Empowerment: Education for a Sustainable Future,” Ms. Anderson stressed the role of education in solving global issues such as the climate crisis. Panels from the exhibition “Seeds of Hope & Action: Making the SDGs a Reality,” jointly created by Earth Charter International and the SGI, were on display at the venue during the conference. On December 4 and 5, Ms. Anderson also attended the Club of Rome Annual Conference, which was held at UPEACE and titled “Shifting from The Limits to Growth to Global Equity for a Healthy Planet: How do we ensure transformational governance?”
