Learn About Your Conference

JHHS and IYE at SUA

What is the focus of this conference?

Members of Jr. High and High School starting from the fall of 2012 will enjoy this conference at Soka University of America, the highest seat of learning. This conference will instill in young practitioners the necessary tools and encouragement to use Nichiren Buddhism to transcend the challenges of teen life.

Through this gathering, we hope to inspire participants to create eternal bonds of friendships and develop a solid foundation of faith based on prayer, study, and the oneness of mentor and disciple. Conference program will include group discussions and lecture on The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin. This conference will also host the 2012 SGI-USA National Ikeda Youth Ensemble Competition where champions from each territory will compete.

This conference is for:

  • Future division members in junior high/middle school or high school. This includes those youth who will enter junior high in the fall.
  • Youth division members who are 18 and older serving as chaperones.
  • Ikeda Youth Ensemble members in one of five competitive groups (dance, taiko, fife and drum corps, brass band and chorus) whose zone team won their respective territory competition and were thus selected to compete in the first Annual Ikeda Youth Ensemble National Competition.

  • The 120 spots reserved for Junior High and High School applicants for the joint Jr. High and High School/Ikeda Youth Ensemble conference will be determined on a first come, first serve basis with 20 of those seats reserved for chaperones who are youth division members aged 18 and older. The remaining 180 seats are reserved for each territory's Ikeda Youth Ensemble champion groups (60 seats per territory).

  • *This conference has a different application process from conferences held at the FNCC.
